So This One Time I Became an Entrepreneur…

and it did not go the way I had planned. Actually I really didn’t have any plans when I started. I never had any intention of entering the dark twisted web that is “the startup world.”  Being an entrepreneurship major in college (before I left to start a company of course) I wanted to go into Real Estate or Interior Design or something creative. Well, that definitely didn’t happen, but Phox Charge did.phox-at-kung-fu It’s come along way since J and I were just two bartenders with this vision of securely charging customers phones for the mostly selfish reason of us not having to be bothered with it behind the bar. That was back in 2010. Fast forward, gasp, four years and our vision is finally a reality. I am pretty proud of myself for not giving up. The amount of tears, frustration and desperation along the way could have definitely derailed us. Many times it almost did. Just a month ago we were sitting on a beach after a terrible meeting with manufacturers, convinced that throwing in the towel was our only option left. But being the people we are we just couldn’t let our mistakes be the end of us.einstien

One of my favorite pinned quotes on my Entrepreneurship Board on Pinterest. He was a pretty smart dude.

As we reflected back on all the mistakes and poor decisions we made along the way, it  frustrated us at first. Like…REALLY frustrated. I just couldn’t get over how naive and out right dumb I had been in regards to super important business decisions. But then I realized, if those mistakes hadn’t of been made, everything we HAD achieved to this point would cease to exist. Never before had we started a business like this or tried our hand at creating a product and concept from scratch. Everything we had built, designed and done had to be learned. The teachers were us and the lessons from those mistakes.

It’s so gratifying to finally announce that Phox Charge is launching the newest Phox Box Model here in Austin this summer! We’ll be testing for the next month and installing charging stations at popular venues around Austin. I’m thankful now for the mistakes I made because without them I would have nothing to show for it.

Don’t let mistakes break you, let them shape you.

Here is a fun promo video I made late last night to quickly Introduce Phox Charge!
