This Year I’m Going To….

I woke up feeling great! I can already tell 2014 is off to a good start. I’ve done my reflecting on last year and I’m not looking back. Maybe I’m being naive thinking that this year is going to be completely different than last. But I’m determined to have a positive and uplifting year. My mantra for this year is, be nice. Being nice to others is important. But above all I need to be nice to myself. I spent/wasted way too much of last year beating myself over the most trivial/useless things. I read this post by Grace Atwood of Stripes & Sequins, on Body Image. And I felt myself agreeing with so much of it. It’s a very honest and insightful post, which I really appreciated. I’m planning on spending my year just lifting myself up. I hate the fact that “society” has dictated to us “women” that patting ourselves on the back or giving ourselves a compliment is considered bragging or being conceited. Guys do it all the time. They constantly walk around thinking they’re the shit. Why shouldn’t we? If we think we look great and want to share it, let’s do it and not feel bad about it. If we’ve made something really cool, show it off. I narrowed down my, “resolutions,” into 4 simple, yet broad things. They’re things I can constantly strive to achieve…

I’m also going to learn how to spell-check, (*positive). The 5th thing is my theme for 2014. I need to take better care of myself both mentally and physically. I’m sure we’re all guilty of beating ourselves up every now and again. But I go all Mike Tyson on myself. It’s not nice. So here’s to falling in love.

you might have the best resolutions i’ve seen for 2014. i love when resolutions are focused on the positive, instead of the negative. (eat clean vs. stop eating junk; it just helps us feel more motivated and encouraged!) self-love has been a big thing for me, especially in 2013, and i know it’ll continue into 2014 and probably the rest of my life. i’m not saying i always love on myself and never beat myself up, but being active and committed to acts of self-care and self-compassion are really important. we’re more successful when we build ourselves up instead of breaking ourselves down.

i can’t wait to see everything you accomplish this year, and how your mantra/resolutions bleed into the blog!

Thanks girl! I really appreciate that. I think playing sports for so long has helped me set “positive goals” v. negative ones because we’d always say, I’m going to make this serve…rather than, I hope I don’t miss it. Train your Brain. :D I just have a great feeling about this year. Self-love is so important. :D You have great goals as well!! Let’s do it! Xx
